Gleaning House Ministries

Hunger knows no season. The less fortunate of our community deal with the stress of feeding their families each week. Grace Methodist began this local food bank in conjunction with the Pickens Church of God when the local unemployment levels began to rise. Other area churches donate food as well since this has become a community supported project. Gleaning House Ministries not only provides food to families in our town but throughout all of Pickens County. Gleaning House is now a registered 503C Program.

Volunteers box up food based upon family size.

Children and youth of all ages volunteer their time to organize food for distribution.

The collection boxes are near the church office. Our faithful pantry workers collect it and distribute it to those in need. Monetary donations are also accepted. Food can be purchased in bulk reasonably. Make out your checks to Gleaning House Ministries.

Did you know......Gleaning House Ministries provides 500 hot Thanksgiving Day dinners each year to needy families and individuals? They also accept good, usable clothing at any time. Twice a year a clothing give away is held at Pickens Presbyterian Church.

Jerry and Diana Hancock assist Esther Corn, the director of Gleaning House, in collecting food from various donation sources. Contact them if you'd like to find out more about this rewarding ministry!

Gleaning House is located at McDaniel Avenue in Pickens, across the street from the Pickens County DSS. Their phone number is 878-0102.

August 2008 Update....

The Gleaning House Ministries Food Pantry in Pickens has been blessed in so many ways by the Grace congregation! Thanks to the generous monetary donations from individuals, Sunday School classes, and Vacation Bible School children, we were able to to obtain a  'manna truck' load of fresh produce weighing over 5,000 pounds for our recipients. And the non-perishable food donations from Grace Church just keep pouring in! With humble hearts, we thank each member and organization for their continued support of the less fortunate in our community.

Can you help? Extra volunteers are needed in August on Tuesdays and Thursday to help pack and pass out produce boxes, starting at 9AM.
