join us on Sundays at 9:30

Grace United Methodist Church is a bee-hive of activity Sunday mornings at 9:30. The buzz you hear comes from Sunday School classes throughout the church — children and adults of all ages — enthusiastically greeting each other and then discussing, laughing, praying, teaching, and learning together. Church members and visitors enjoy friendly conversation, coffee, and light  refreshments from 9:15 to 9:30.

Children from birth through elementary age will find a Sunday School home in the downstairs hallway near the sanctuary. A nursery is provided from 8:30 to 11:30 each Sunday morning for infants and toddlers in Room 106.

Preschoolers and kindergarteners join Mrs. Tommye Hendricks and Mrs. Martha Chandler to learn about Jesus through crafts and Bible stories in Room 104, with adjoining child’s bathroom.

Elementary age children (1st -5th grade) take part in weekly Bible lessons with Mrs. Jeanette Winchester in Room 101.

Middle school age students (6th-8th grade) meet upstairs with Mrs. Courtney Moore and Ms. Nancy Rhyner in Room 211. Lessons and Bible readings apply to real-life situations encountered by middle schoolers.

Grace youth, consisting of high school age students, meet for Sunday School upstairs in the Jimmy Dillard Youth Room at the end of the hall above the sanctuary. Led by Ken Lowe, our youth enjoy a relaxed atmosphere while growing in faith and service.

The Joel Cannon Class studies Cokesbury Bible Studies with teacher Bill Shields. Prominently displayed at the front of the classroom is a prayer list which is updated weekly. Members are invited to add names of individuals, families, non-members, national leaders, survivors of tragedies all over the world — anyone who needs spiritual support through prayer. A discussion style allows everyone a chance to express their faith and ideas in a small, comfortable setting. Visitors report feeling warmly welcomed to this class which exhibits Christ’s love in many ways. Financial support is given to special projects, and a $1,000 scholarship is awarded annually to a person going into the ministry. Age range is mostly 60’s and 70’s. Room 234.

The mission of the Adult Fellowship Class is to study God’s Word and apply it directly to their lives. Teachers Lib Cater, Christy Lowe, and Dan Winchester teach from Cokesbury Bible Studies but occasionally use other Bible studies. Ages range from 60’s to 85+. Room 115.

Hawley Lynn Class members are dedicated to study and discussion of Cokesbury Bible Studies and are interested in church and family. They support one another through various life experiences and learn from one another in a continuous effort to lead Christian lives. The class personally and financially supports church projects such as the annual bazaar, men’s club activities, and women’s circles. Taught by Barbara Hayse and Judy Lindsay, the class enjoys an occasional social meal with members and their spouses. Approximate ages 70’s and 80’s. Room 235.

Linda McKenzie teaches the Joy Class using Cokesbury Bible Studies. Class members are involved in the community and in missions. They enjoy the Christian fellowship of many social activities. Ages 40’s and up. Room 233.

The Lee Cothran Class enjoys Bible based study, led by Libby Medlin, using Disciple Bible Study materials. “This is the most FUN class in the church,” laughs Libby, “because you can find ANYTHING in the Bible!” There is a wide age range and they meet in the church library, Room 136.

The Morris Thompson Class is an energetic, innovative group — singles and married couples —– from college age to fifties. They are truly a diverse group that likes to relate scripture to their personal lives at all levels: individual, family, parenting, careers, and personal ministries within the church as well as the community and the world. The strength of the class is its diverse makeup, resulting in discussions from many viewpoints. Teachers Terry Gromlovits and Glenn Crowe rotate through study topics selected by the class. Recent topics include the Book of Proverbs, hunger and poverty, and a Biblical guide to patience. The class makes financial contributions to the Gleaning House and to persons in need. Members serve in many roles at Grace. Wide age range beginning with young adults. Room 215.

Teachers in the Marvin Gravely Class rotate monthly, using the teacher’s choice of topic. Teachers are: John Chandler, Charlie Hendricks, Tommye Hendricks, Robin McCollum, Tim Sullivan, and Hamp Summey. Two main missions they support are Country Santa and the local Gleaning House Food Pantry. The class enjoys two or more socials a year. Ages 50’s to 70’s. Room 212.

Garry Barnett teaches the Seekers Class. They explore Christianity in unique ways, and they are currently exploring the New Testament book by book. Everyone participates in class. Ages 50’s to 70’s. Room 210.
